April 2024: Launch of GISD Alliance guidance on SDG bonds

The issuance of sovereign SDG bonds and thematic debt by governments to finance their sustainable development priorities has grown tremendously over the last few years. The potential to advance the SDGs through this instrument is huge. Nevertheless, there are challenges as the market grows and a need for both countries and investors to understand challenges and lessons learnt.

The Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance, under the leadership of UNDESA and UNDP, has developed integrated guidance co-written by Tenke Zoltani, Better Finance, for the benefit of sovereign borrowers considering SDG bonds and investors looking to scale-up investments through these instruments. The guidance provides recommendations for advancing the sovereign SDG bond market that can be brought forth by:

Ø The UN and Multilateral Development Banks

Ø Donors

Ø Sovereign issuers

Ø Investors and Banks

We invite you to join the GISD Alliance, UN DESA and UNDP on 23 April 2024, 4:30-6:00pm, at the @UN Headquarters in New York for the launch of this new guidance alongside the 2024 Finance for Development Forum and SDG Investment Fair.
